Help! I Regret My Tattoo!

Getting a tattoo is a big decision. It’s a commitment to having something on your skin for life.

But sometimes people get tattoos they regret, and the numbers show it. A 2017 survey shows that 11% of all people with tattoos have them removed and 26% of millennials that get them regret it.

But what are your best options for getting rid of the ink that was meant to stay forever? Perhaps now is the time to see what laser tattoo removal can do for you.

If you want to be rid of your tattoo and you live near Yuma or Tucson, Arizona, Peach Skin & Laser has the best professionals for the job. We are equipped with the latest technology to give you the results your skin needs.

Here’s what you need to know.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Tattoos are made up of thousands of ink particles suspended in your skin, and some colors of ink are easier to remove than others (black, brown, dark blue, and green).

Usually, when your body encounters small, foriegn particles, your immune system removes them. With tattoo ink, however, the particles are too big for the immune system to remove, which is why they can be permanent.

Laser removal treatments (using devices such as the PiQo4 picosecond laser) target the tattoo ink particles using highly focused light waves. This process heats up the particles and breaks them down into smaller ones that your body can safely remove through your immune system.

Treatments often take multiple sessions and will depend on the size of the tattoo, your skin tone, and whether you have any skin conditions such as eczema.

What is the procedure?

To prepare for treatment, the tattoo will be numbed with a local anesthetic. Then we use the PiQo4 laser to apply concentrated light waves to heat and break down the ink particles.

Multiple wavelengths may be necessary for tattoos with lots of colors. Patients often describe the sensation as similar to having your skin repeatedly snapped by a heavy rubber band. This treatment is done several times until the tattoo has faded from your skin.

What happens after tattoo removal?

Post treatment care includes applying antibacterial ointment to the treated area several days after each treatment. This will help your skin to heal and prevent possible infection. Changing the wound dressing and keeping the area clean is equally important to help the skin heal properly.

In addition, over the initial two weeks after treatment, you will need to keep the area clean and dry, avoid tight clothing, avoid direct sunlight, and avoid picking at any scabs and blisters that may form as your skin is healing.
